CAF signed in 2012 a contract to supply 10 suburban trains, 4-car each, to CBTU (Companhia Brasileira de Trens Urbanos) for the Brazilian city Belo Horizonte, capital of the Minas Gerais state.
These state-of-the-art bidirectional electric units boast a passenger capacity of 1,500 and are designed to facilitate train access for persons with reduced mobility. CAF has a large experience in supplying this type of vehicle in this country having supplied similar trains to CPTM previously, in Sao Paulo.
The Belo Horizonte city has a population of 2.3 million inhabitants and is one of the host cities designated for the FIFA World Cup 2014, as well as a sub-host city for the Summer Olympic Games 2016.
