In 2013 CAF signed a contract to supply 3 Urbos trams for the city of Cagliari. These trams consist of five modules which are low floor type all through, which helps prevent trip hazards for passengers. This vehicle does not only provide the best accessibility conditions for Persons with Reduced Mobility, but also meets the highest ecodesign standards with integration in the architectural environment while maintaining high performance standards.
This project is the second contract awarded by the Sardinian Autonomous Region to CAF. The company already supplied Regional Diesel Trains with Tilting Technology that currently operate in the railway network of the island.
The population of the city of Cagliari is in excess of 150,000, and the city’s tram system is 6.5 km long and has 9 stops. The city’s decision to choose Urbos adds to the same move by many cities in the whole world which have opted for this range of trams.
