CAF signed on Wednesday, December the 2nd, a contract to supply 12 Trains for Metro de Medellín (Colombia). This deal amounts to €70 million.
These are metro units comprising 3 cars each (2 motor cars and 1 trailer car) able to run on single or double consists. Single Units (3 cars) are approximately 69 meters long with a maximum capacity of 1,145 passengers. Units are fitted with 4 doors on each car side, 1500 Vdc catenary pantograph power pick-up, and state of the art passenger information.
Metro de Medellín is the mass transit system in the Valle de Aburrá and the metropolitan area, and currently comprises metro lines A and B and Metrocable.
With more than 2 million inhabitants, the city of Medellín has a fleet of 42 units which will be boosted by the 12 new trains.
This new deal underpins CAF’s share in the Latin-American market where the Company has developed very significant project for rolling stock supply and concessions. CAF has supplied state-of-the-art trains to Brazil, Mexico, Chile, Argentina, and now Colombia.
