2006/01/10
At the extraordinary meeting of the 10.01.06, the RENFE Board decided to award CAF a batch of 40 CIVIA model commuter train Units (200 Vehicles) with 6 years maintenance.
The supply volume corresponding to CAF amounts to approximately 200 mill. € and shall be executed as an extension of the previous batch (182 cars), currently in production, with the first delivery scheduled for May, 2006, and with production scheduled to continue until the first months of 2010.
This is the third contract for this type of train (following the previous batches of 14 and 18 Units) since the year 2000 when its development was completed.
CAF is the main technologist, executing the whole project, computerised control, equipment and interior and exterior design. SIEMENS has developed the traction equipment.
Thanks to the flexibility of the CIVIA model composition of 2, 3, 4 or 5 cars, it meets the commuter transport requirements for all types of urban centres.
Also, as shared Bogies are fitted, and constructed in light alloys, there is an important reduction in weight which has the advantage of considerable energy saving.
All of the above, together with the allotment of spaces and accesses for PRMs (persons with reduced mobility) and the maximum installation of safety and comfort items, make these Units a leading worldwide reference for these types of services.
With this contract, CAF’s Backlog exceeds 2,500 mill. €.
