In 2013, the Mass Rapid Transit Bureau of the Kaohsiung City (KMRT) and the consortium made by Evergreen Construction Corp. and CAF have signed the contract to build the first phase of the circular LRV line of the Kaohsiung city. This new line will be built in 2 phases with a total length of 30 kms. The Kaohsiung seaport city is the second largest city in Taiwan.
This is a turn-key project in which CAF supplies the rolling stock, signalling, electrification, the ticketing system and the integration of all subsystems. This scope is covered with the participation of the companies CAF Signalling and CAF Transport & Engineering, both part of the CAF Group.
The LRVs are part of the Urbos family and comprise 5 modules each. Vehicles are bidirectional and have 4 doors per side. This is the first tram in Asia to be built with the GREENTECH catenary-free technology on the 8.6 km section of the first phase.
