The West Midlands Transport Authority, which operates the metro system of this city under the Centro commercial name, awarded CAF, in 2012, the supply of 20 Urbos 100 trams.
In 2019 the fleet was expanded and both the new and older trams were equipped with on-board power, with OESS Greentech equipment based on lithium-ion batteries to provide catenary-free operation.
These trams, similar to those running in Zaragoza, are 100% low floor with the best accessibility conditions for handicapped persons. Deliveries were made from 2014 to 2015.
This tram project includes the opening of an extension of the existing line system in addition to the total replacement of the vehicles currently in service with a more modern fleet.
