Renfe awards CAF a contract for manufacturing and maintaining 40 CIVIA commuter trains

The model to be constructed corresponds to the technology defined in the CIVIA platform designed and developed exclusively by CAF. The train has a modular structure which allows the formation of compositions made up of 2 to 5 coaches. It incorporates the latest technological advances, such as shared bogies and light materials which reduce consumption and increase safety and comfort, as well as computerised control systems with the most advanced European standards (COSMOS control network developed exclusively by CAF). The CIVIA trains are adaptable and versatile, and may be updated with future developments. 31 of the 40 units will be 5-coach compositions and the rest will have 3 coaches. The trains will be delivered between the middle of 2005 and the end of 2007.
