Workers at a test laboratory

The CAF Group has the facilities, test benches, equipment and personnel required to perform a wide range of tests relating to the verification of new designs and the type approval of new vehicles.

Likewise, in relation to the tests, the CAF Group is able to perform tests and analyses to resolve any incidents that may occur throughout the vehicle life cycle, if this is required. The wide range of tests covers passenger and freight vehicles and can be divided into:

  • Structural resistance of the carbody (nominal and maximum vertical loads and quasi-static simulation of dynamic longitudinal loads).
  • Structural integrity and fatigue tests of the bogie frame.
  • Fatigue tests on the wheels, axles, bearings and gears.

  • On the track, ride performance, comfort, vibrations.
  • Acoustic tests (at a standstill and running).
  • Aerodynamic tests (wake effect, pressure waves in tunnels, drag).
  • Characterisation of suspensions (on test benches and on the track).
  • Interaction tests between pantograph and catenary.

  • Type Tests for the complete vehicle.
  • EMC study of components.
  • Study of the vehicle / infrastructure interactions.
